As society editor for Alabama's oldest daily newspaper, Susie Spear Cloos grew up sewing and crocheting in North Carolina on the porches of her grandmothers and great-aunt. She spent 15 years as an investigative journalist and health writer before developing a line of baby millinery. After having fraternal twin girls in 1995, Susie met Laura Norton, a mother of two toddlers, former history teacher and nationally recognized cheerleading coach. The pair, eager to find covers for their own children's carseats and to "wardrobe'' the utilitarian-looking accessories that were mostly offered in dull background fabrics, decided to try making some patterns. Laura also shared an interest in needlework from early tutelage by her Texas grandmothers. After interviewing mothers and toddlers alike for their input on fabrics and comfort, the two decided to wed traditional Southern elegance with zesty and more urban fashion-forward prints. They combed the nation's top fabric houses and sought out the best veteran stitchers in Alabama to craft the product line. Featured in "Kid's Today,""Kid's Home Furnishings," and "Baby and Kid's Home Furnishings Magazine," Carseat Couture's line is carried by more than 400 top boutiques nationwide and has enjoyed endorsement by the nation's top monogramming associations.

Cheeky Monkey Pac Back - Red for only $34.99 by Cheeky Monkey DesignsThe Pac Back by Cheeky Monkey Designs is quite possibly the BEST car seat carrier we’ve ever tested. Sure, we’ll admit that when it first arrived here, there were a few raised eyebrows—could it really be comfortable to carry a big convertible car seat like the Britax Roundabout on your back? We tried it out with several different seats, and were pleased to find the answer is a resounding YES. The Pac Back is built on an internal frame system with heavy duty webbing, sturdy nylon clips, padded shoulder straps and hip protectors. Basically, it’s the same sort of construction you’d find on a quality mountain backpack, and it’s surprisingly comfortable to wear. It’s also easy to clean—warm water and mild soap does the trick to remove dirt or stains from the carrier and the included storage tote. |
